Hi 👋🏻

As you have been reading my newsletter for quite some time now, you know that I send Insideletter three times a week. A lot of people ask how I manage to do it, but let’s not discuss that today. Instead, let me help you write your weekly newsletter. No matter how often you send it, there is a better way to structure and approach it.

And by the way, I am writing this edition while sitting on a bus because I am travelling right now. That should tell you how committed I am to Insideletter. Let’s begin today’s edition.

1. Single dominant idea

You need one clear direction for each edition. Before you begin writing, decide what you want your reader to understand or do differently after finishing the email. That idea (which is known as CTA) becomes the backbone of the entire issue. When every line of your newsletter supports one direction, your message carries more weight. Keep your examples, explanations, and everything tied to that central thought so the reader never feels pulled in multiple directions.

Context example:
If the edition is about improving monetisation through weekly emails, I’ll focus only on how you can structure your newsletter to lead into an offer. Instead of adding sections about audience growth or personal branding, I’ll keep the discussion centred on positioning, timing, and message flow that leads towards a sale.

2. Fix the intro

Your first few lines set the pace for the rest of the newsletter. Use them to establish context quickly and show why this topic matters right now. Move directly into the insight rather than building a long introduction. A focused opening creates momentum and helps the reader understand what they will gain from continuing.

Context example:
I began this edition by describing a situation that you recognised, and then introducing the shift you want them to apply in their next newsletter.

3. Build depth

This is where trust grows. Instead of listing tips, walk your reader through your thinking process step by step. Break your main idea into smaller parts and explain how each part connects to the outcome you introduced at the beginning. Use examples that show decision-making and structure so your reader can apply the same logic to their own business. Don’t send them AI copy-paste, please.

4. Create a natural transition towards monetisation

Your offer should feel like the next logical step of the lesson you just delivered. When the teaching builds tension around a problem, the introduction of your service or resource feels aligned with your reader’s needs. Focus on clarity and alignment so the transition actually works.

5. Closing

Your closing lines shape how your reader remembers the edition. Reinforce the main idea without repeating yourself, and guide them towards the next step that maintains engagement.

Focus

Writing newsletters isn’t easy, some people just copy and paste them with AI, but that’s not the ideal way, and it’ll never be.

So what you just learnt, apply it in your next edition, and you’ll see the change.

Hope it helps! Thanks for reading!
