Insideletters helps you build a 1 person newsletter business. 3X weekly.

Heyyyy, it’s a fantastic Tuesday, but it’s the last week of October.

Well, the year is going to end in the blink of an eye…

We can’t stop time, but we can turn time into money.

So, today, let’s understand why your content needs more attention.

Most newsletters fall into one of two traps:

They either sound like a theory book or too many personal stories.

Both kill the interest of your audience.

Educational newsletters without stories feel very AI-ish.

Story-driven ones without a good takeaway don’t feel valuable.

But the magic happens in the middle.

If you've seen my newsletters carefully, each edition begins with a personal introduction, but it is primarily an educational newsletter.

Have you ever felt bored? probably no. Because I know how to use it in the best possible way.

Well, let me show you how to do it. All you need to do is just follow these 3 steps.

Start with a story

The easiest way to do this is by using your own experiences as the base for your lessons.

What do I mean by this? Let’s say I have written a newsletter edition for the Growth Flywheel, where I’ve mentioned the learning I got from the book I’m reading now.

You can do the same…

Every week, something happens to you that can turn into a story.

Maybe an email campaign failed, a client surprised you, or you learnt something about your own habits. Start your email with that story.

But it shouldn’t be long. A few lines about what happened are sufficient. So the game is of reliability.

Follow the 80-20 balance

A good rule is to keep an 80-20 balance. 80% of your newsletter should help your reader learn something, and 20% should show your human side. The 80% builds authority, the 20% builds connection.

When you mix them both, people see you as someone who understands them. And that’s why they will reply or share it further.

Use a repeatable structure

If you observe it closely, then you’ll find that I follow the same pattern every single day.

Right now, I’m teaching you, but when I started, I already used the story or personal statements.

And I do this every single time. You don’t need to do it differently every day.

When you keep doing things in the same way, it becomes your signature.

Stories are a must, but they shouldn’t be the only thing. Similarly, only educating your audience won’t work, so mix them and you’re good to go.

I’ve done a ton of research and read 100s of newsletters. All repeat this mistake, and I don’t want you to be a part of it.
